OMAN STANDS FOR INTERFAITH DIALOGUE

Sayyid Fahd receives supervisors of Oman’s places of worship

Muscat - On behalf of His Majesty the Sultan, Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Council of Ministers, received on Tuesday supervisors of places of worship in the Sultanate of Oman.

At the outset of the meeting, Sayyid Fahd said that the true Islamic religion focuses on tolerance and coexistence among all religions.

The principles of Islam are based on understanding and cooperation to serve all humanity, away from conflicts and wars, said Sayyid Fahd.

He noted that the main idea is to reject imposing or favouring one religion over another, to avoid the occurrence of such acts of violence, killing and displacement as the one to which Palestinians are now a victim. These acts, he affirmed, are based on motives that do not represent any religion or sound belief.

The discussion dealt with ways to support joint cooperation among adherents of different religions, with the prime aim of spreading awareness about acceptance of the other and enhancing dialogue to establish an environment of understanding among all segments of society.

The meeting touched on the significance of intensifying gatherings, exchanging expertise and holding conferences that serve constructive cooperation among followers of all religions in order “to preserve the basic human rights to live in peace” and to achieve the common interests of all peoples.

The attendants from these places of worship voiced their appreciation for the efforts made by Oman in supporting interfaith dialogue. They praised religious freedom and the moderation policy pursued by Oman, noting that this policy had the greatest impact on the respect and recognition accorded to the country worldwide. They hoped that conditions will get back to normal in the world so that everyone could enjoy security and stability.
