Bahla Fort festival attracts 20,000 visitors
The Bahla Fort Winter Festival in the wilayat of Bahla, Dakhliyah governorate, concluded on Sunday evening after a six-day cultural extravaganza drawing over 20,000 visitors.
Ali bin Ahmed al Shaqsi, General Manager of the Bahla Fort Management and Operation Project, informed that the inaugural festival at the historic fort aligned with the objectives of Marasim Tourism Company, which manages the fort.
One of the goals of Oman Vision 2040 is encouraging private sector involvement in the management of archaeological and tourist sites.
Highlighting the festival's dual benefits, Shaqsi said it contributed to society by engaging local artisans and productive families in commercial activities, while stimulating domestic tourism. The festival attracted over 20,000 visitors, both domestic and international, underscoring its success as a significant tourist attraction.
The festival's vibrant atmosphere was enriched by the participation of over 25 families engaged in cottage industries.
They showcased their products in a dedicated area, highlighting the rich traditional crafts of the region. Government institutions, Omani Women’s Association and specialised corners like Beit Harfati - focusing on pottery making - and Talid - dedicated to the ceramics industry - were among the participants. Active participation of these sectors reflected the unique cultural heritage for which the wilayat of Bahla is famed.
The festival concluded with a ceremony presided over by Sheikh Saeed bin Ali al Nuaimi, Wali of Bahla. In a gesture of appreciation, he honoured the participants, celebrating their contribution to the festival's success.
