National Museum signs National Records and Archives Authority for ‘Wossol’ management
The National Museum and the National Records and Archives Authority on Sunday signed an operating memorandum to implement the ‘Wosool’ system for managing electronic documents and records at the museum’s headquarters.
This is part of the first phase of activities for 2024 of the ‘Wosool’ project led by the National Records and Archives Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology as a strategic partner in the project.
H E Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhawyani signed an operating memorandum, the Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority, and H E Jamal bin Hassan al Moosawi, the Secretary-general of the National Museum. This project is a central initiative in the digital transformation plan for the government sector, as the ‘Wosool’ system will serve as the central system for managing electronic documents and records for government entities. The system aims to enable government entities to manage their documents and information efficiently, aligning with the relevant systems, standards, and best practices in this field.
The system will enhance digital transformation in government entities by creating a secure environment for preserving and managing electronic documents and information specific to each entity. Through this project, the National Records and Archives Authority aims to provide the technical tools to help entities manage their documents and information in a secure environment compliant with regulations and standards.
One of the notable challenges addressed by the ‘Wosool’ system is the organised handling of interconnected topics since their inception and their systematic categorisation based on the classification system and retention periods adopted by the entity.
The system will also contribute to improving government communication by facilitating the exchange of internal memoranda electronically and external correspondence with other entities, thereby reducing the time and effort wasted in government communication processes. A significant aspect highlighting this is the fully electronic signing of the memorandum, eliminating the need for printing and manual signatures.
‘Modern technologies are the cornerstone of our contemporary world, where technology has become the foundation for many transformative initiatives that have changed institutions' shape, features, and priorities. The government sector in Oman is not immune to these changes, as evidenced by the launch of the digital transformation plan, which aims to empower government entities to leverage modern technologies in achieving their goals.’
