In a remarkable feat of determination and physical endurance, adventurer Suhaila Nasser al Kindi has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. At 5,895m above sea level, Kilimanjaro is considered one of Africa's most iconic natural wonders.

Accompanied by her friends, Suhaila embarked on the challenging seven-day trek and reached the summit to hoist Oman’s flag on the peak. Besides representing her achievement and the spirit of Omani adventurers, she considers the feat a matter of national pride.

Suhaila's ascent to the top began on January 13, culminating with her reaching Stella Point, one of three official summits of Mount Kilimanjaro, on January 17 at 8 am. "It was an extraordinary and unforgettable journey," she told Muscat Daily. She described climbing Mount Kilimanjaro as a long-cherished dream come true.

Discussing the challenges faced during the climb, Suhaila highlighted altitude sickness, marked by headaches and shortness of breath, as one of the significant hurdles. Additionally, she pointed out the fluctuating temperatures and extreme cold encountered at high altitudes. Her daily routine included six to seven hours of walking to reach the peak.

In preparation for this adventure, Suhaila undertook extensive training, including long walks for three months. A passionate mountain walker and health enthusiast, she often explores different locations in the sultanate in pursuit of new adventures.

In December 2020, Suhaila, head of the tender, contracts and procurement department at be’ah, undertook an 890km walk from Muscat to Salalah with the objective of spreading awareness on environmental preservation.

Besides advocating a physically active lifestyle and encouraging sports activities, Suhaila's journey was a testament to the capabilities of Omani women in achieving their goals. “I urge Omani women to engage in sports, because a healthy mind in a healthy body is important to achieve one’s dreams. And never give up,” she said.
