US strikes pose threat to peace, stability in region: Sayyid Badr
The Sultanate of Oman does not see any benefit in the United States’ retaliatory strikes in Syria, Iraq and Yemen. Rather it finds such action jeopardising the safety and stability of the region.
In a statement to ONA, H E Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, said that the sultanate is deeply concerned about the ongoing escalation in the region due to the unjust Israeli war in the Gaza Strip.
“The Sultanate of Oman does not see the point in launching such military attacks on sites in the region. These attacks threaten its safety and stability and complicate efforts to find root solutions to the challenges facing the region, including issues of violence and extremism,” he said.
The minister added that the war in Gaza has resulted in the deaths and injuries of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children.
He affirmed Oman's view that the only solution to the conflict lies in addressing its causes and triggers, starting with the recognition of an independent Palestinian state and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from all Palestinian territories.
The US and the UK carried out strikes on Saturday and Sunday on Houthi-controlled positions in Yemen in a new wave of attacks against the Iran-aligned Yemeni group, which has been targeting US and Israeli interests in solidarity with Palestinians.
US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria on Friday targeted armed groups linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in retaliation of the killing of three US soldiers in Jordan last week.
Iran denounced the latest US and UK strikes on targets in Yemen, saying these contradict their declared intention of averting a wider Middle East conflict.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated that these attacks are “in clear contradiction with the repeated claims of Washington and London that they do not want the expansion of war and conflict in the region”. He accused the US and the UK of “fuelling chaos, disorder, insecurity and instability” by supporting Israel in its Gaza war.

H E Sayyid Badr spoke to Ayman al Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, on Sunday. They agreed on the need to halt the war and work towards a new approach that leads to achieving a permanent and comprehensive peace by ending Israel’s occupation of the occupied territories and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
