The Italian Academy of Cuisine (Accademia della Cucina Italiana) has awarded honorary membership to H E Pierluigi D'elia, Ambassador of Italy to Oman, in recognition of his efforts to preserve and advance authentic Italian culinary traditions in the sultanate.

The awarding ceremony was held at Richoux Café, Opera Galleria, on Saturday, in the presence of four members of the academy.

The academy has been a pivotal institution since its foundation - in 1953 - with the primary objective of safeguarding and propagating Italian culinary heritage both domestically and internationally.

A branch of the academy was established in Oman in 2022, indicating the growing influence and appreciation for Italian cuisine in the region.

Muscat now boasts seven exclusive Italian restaurants, each periodically reviewed by the academy to ensure they meet the standards of authentic Italian gastronomy.

These evaluations serve as a reliable reference for tourists seeking genuine Italian dining experiences in Oman – true taste and atmosphere of Italy accessible far from its shores.

Flavio Fazzuoli, a member of the academy, said, “Awarding H E D'elia an honorary membership acknowledges his unwavering dedication to the promotion and conservation of Italian cuisine's core values in Oman."

He further revealed plans of the academy to conclude the year with an exhibition showcasing exclusive Italian dishes from the seven accredited restaurants. “This event will not only promote gastronomic excellence but also serve as a cultural bridge between Italy and Oman, celebrating the shared love for the art of Italian cooking.”
