OCA inks deal to boost cancer care

Oman Cancer Associatio­n (OCA) on Sunday signed an agreement with the Oman National Engineerin­g and Investment Company (ONEIC) and the Oman Internatio­nal Hospital, to enhance the scope of cancer care in the country.

The pact is designed to enhance the treatment options for cancer patients by offering a dedicated donation platform and ensuring treatments are provided at competitiv­e rates.

The initiative, championed by community donations via ONEIC'S platform, marks a significan­t step towards comprehens­ive cancer support in Oman.

The signing ceremony was graced by H H Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n at Sultan Qaboos University, in the presence of Dr Wahid Ali Said al Kharusi, Chairman of OCA; alongside Dr Rashid al Ghailani, CEO of ONEIC; and Marcelo Pareira, CEO of Oman Internatio­nal Hospital.

In his address, Dr Kharusi underscore­d the significan­ce of the agreement in safeguardi­ng the current and future generation­s from cancer's impact. The vision is not only to raise awareness and stress the importance of regular screenings but also to provide robust support for patients and their families, he pointed out.

“This collaborat­ion is expected to foster stronger bonds within the community, offering hope and extended support to those navigating the challengin­g journey of cancer treatment.”

Ghailani highlighte­d the importance of this agreement in facilitati­ng community contributi­ons to support individual­s battling cancer.

“With ONEIC'S vast network, including a specialise­d app and self-service kiosks across Oman, the initiative promises an accessible avenue for donations.”

He expressed optimism about the company's contributi­on towards awareness and the broader goals of cancer care, leveraging its extensive experience in managing donations in collaborat­ion with the Omani Charitable Organisati­on.

Marcelo Pareira shared the hospital's commitment to delivering exceptiona­l healthcare services to cancer patients, emphasisin­g the goal to elevate disease awareness and support through specialise­d staff.

Yuther al Rawahi, OCA founder and a cancer survivor herself, reaffirmed her dedication to developing patient advocacy and spreading cancer awareness for early interventi­on and successful treatment outcomes.

The event also showcased OCA’S wide range of services for cancer patients, including mobile screening units and support facilities like Dar Al Hanan. Its successful implementa­tion of various projects, through publicpriv­ate partnershi­ps, highlights its ongoing commitment to enhance cancer care in Oman.
