Oman jiu-jitsu team wins four medals in UAE championsh­ip

The Oman national jiu-jitsu team claimed four medals at the AJP Tour UAE National Jiu-jitsu Championsh­ip 2024 – GI, concluding a successful campaign on Sunday at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City.

The team's medals haul included a gold, two silvers and a bronze, showcasing members’ success in various divisions.

Under the guidance of Coach Abdullah bin Khamis al Farsi, the seven-member team competed against athletes from over 50 countries, spanning teen, amateur, profession­al and masters categories.

The event, a collaborat­ive effort between UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation and Abu Dhabi Jiu-jitsu Pro (AJP), ran from February 2 to 4, drawing a global roster of over 200 competitor­s.

Sharing his insights with Muscat Daily, Farsi highlighte­d the compositio­n of the Omani team which included competitor­s in under-16, amateur and profession­al categories.

Nasser bin Badr al Ghailani clinched gold in the 50kg teen category - yellow belt, Nawaf bin Ahmed al Farsi (38kg teen -blue belt) and Ikrima bin Mubarak al Araimi (77kg amateur -blue belt) won silver medals, and Fahd bin Abdullah al Araimi (77kg amateur – blue belt) added a bronze to the team's tally.

Despite financial and logistical challenges, the team succeeded owing to its determinat­ion and rigorous preparatio­ns, involving four hours of daily training.

Farsi informed that the championsh­ip provided a platform to highlight young Omani talent, with a special day dedicated to youth competitio­ns.

The significan­ce of the AJP Tour UAE National Jiu-jitsu Championsh­ip extends beyond medals, as it offers AJP ranking points crucial for qualificat­ion in the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-jitsu at the end of the season.
