Occupational health summit begins in Muscat
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), H E Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, opened the International Occupational Health Summit (IOHS 2024), at a ceremony held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat.
The exhibition, being held in collaboration with Oman Energy Association (OPAL) under the theme ‘Towards Sustainable Health Excellence at the Workplace’, drew industry leaders, senior officials, and subject matter experts from various sectors, along with professionals interested in occupational health and industrial hygiene.
The event, which will come to an end on Wednesday, reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to advancing occupational health concerns and implementing best practices, a release said.
The summit attempts to highlight Oman’s efforts and role in occupational health on local, regional, and global scales, aiming to achieve world-class occupational health standards and practices across various industries. It shall reinforce Oman’s commitment to fostering a safe, healthy, and highly productive workforce, the organisers asserted.
The primary objective of IOHS 2024 is to establish a global platform for occupational health excellence in the region, showcasing global standards, best practices, innovation, and technology. The summit brings together international occupational health leaders, medical officers, professionals, regulators, hygienists, academics, consultants, students, and other stakeholders with a focus on protecting labor and creating a healthy work environment.
The summit hosts insights from local, regional, and international experts, specialists, and academics representing diverse organisations. The comprehensive programme encompasses four keynote sessions, six leadership panel discussions, 18 technical sessions, and three pre-conference workshops. Topics covered include worker welfare, leadership and sustainability in occupational health, policies and standards, innovation and technology, mental health at the workplace, occupational health surveillance, and various specialised subjects.
The accompanied exhibition of IOHS 2024 witnesses the participation of various companies from diverse local, regional, and international entities. This exhibition serves as a platform to showcase global standards and cultures in Occupational Health, spotlighting best practices, innovation, and technology within the field.
It promises to be a comprehensive exploration of advancements in occupational health, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants.
