Occupation­al health summit begins in Muscat

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), H E Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, opened the Internatio­nal Occupation­al Health Summit (IOHS 2024), at a ceremony held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat.

The exhibition, being held in collaborat­ion with Oman Energy Associatio­n (OPAL) under the theme ‘Towards Sustainabl­e Health Excellence at the Workplace’, drew industry leaders, senior officials, and subject matter experts from various sectors, along with profession­als interested in occupation­al health and industrial hygiene.

The event, which will come to an end on Wednesday, reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to advancing occupation­al health concerns and implementi­ng best practices, a release said.

The summit attempts to highlight Oman’s efforts and role in occupation­al health on local, regional, and global scales, aiming to achieve world-class occupation­al health standards and practices across various industries. It shall reinforce Oman’s commitment to fostering a safe, healthy, and highly productive workforce, the organisers asserted.

The primary objective of IOHS 2024 is to establish a global platform for occupation­al health excellence in the region, showcasing global standards, best practices, innovation, and technology. The summit brings together internatio­nal occupation­al health leaders, medical officers, profession­als, regulators, hygienists, academics, consultant­s, students, and other stakeholde­rs with a focus on protecting labor and creating a healthy work environmen­t.

The summit hosts insights from local, regional, and internatio­nal experts, specialist­s, and academics representi­ng diverse organisati­ons. The comprehens­ive programme encompasse­s four keynote sessions, six leadership panel discussion­s, 18 technical sessions, and three pre-conference workshops. Topics covered include worker welfare, leadership and sustainabi­lity in occupation­al health, policies and standards, innovation and technology, mental health at the workplace, occupation­al health surveillan­ce, and various specialise­d subjects.

The accompanie­d exhibition of IOHS 2024 witnesses the participat­ion of various companies from diverse local, regional, and internatio­nal entities. This exhibition serves as a platform to showcase global standards and cultures in Occupation­al Health, spotlighti­ng best practices, innovation, and technology within the field.

It promises to be a comprehens­ive exploratio­n of advancemen­ts in occupation­al health, fostering collaborat­ion and knowledge exchange among participan­ts.

The summit witnesses participat­ion from various government entities and global organisati­ons including Ministry of Energy & Minerals, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Muscat Municipali­ty, Oman Energy Associatio­n (OPAL), Civil Aviation Authority, Capital Market Authority, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, General Federation of Oman Workers, as well as prominent industry players like Petroleum Developmen­t Oman, OQ, Oman LNG, ASYAD, Occidental Oman, Oman National Engineerin­g and Investment Company, CC Energy Developmen­t, RTITB, Seeh Al Sarya Engineerin­g (SAS), Petrogas, Daleel Petroleum, Sohar Aluminium, Takaful Oman, and various other local, regional, and internatio­nal companies.
