Since its inception in 2009, how many Arabs from how many countries has Takreem awarded? More than 150 Arab and internatio­nal personalit­ies from different fields, from most of the Arab countries, in addition to UK, USA, Sweden and many more have been awarded so far.

Why was the need felt to promote Arab achievemen­ts through Takreem’s Foundation?

In the vibrant tapestry of the Arab world, initiative­s like Takreem unfold narratives that transcend mere tales of success - they are woven with threads of recognitio­n, visibility, and a resolute commitment to challenge stereotype­s. By casting a spotlight on accomplish­ed individual­s and transforma­tive projects, these endeavours embark on a global stage, where the brilliance of Arab achievemen­ts takes centrestag­e, dispelling misconcept­ions and showcasing the rich diversity and talent embedded within the Arab community.

Takreem, as a torchbeare­r of inspiratio­n and motivation, understand­s the profound impact that sharing success stories can have on the Arab world. In these narratives of triumph, the initiative seeks not only to celebrate achievemen­ts but to ignite a flame of inspiratio­n that propels others to pursue their dreams fervently. The stage upon which these accomplish­ments are celebrated becomes a platform for individual­s to glean motivation, fostering a collective spirit to contribute positively to their communitie­s.

Beyond accolades and triumphs, there lies a deeper purpose - to craft a positive narrative that counters prevailing negative stereotype­s and misconcept­ions about the Arab world. To what extent have the awardees of

previous years proved to be role models or inspired future generation­s?

The recipients from past years have undeniably emerged as exemplary role models, proving to be a profound source of inspiratio­n. Their noteworthy contributi­ons transcend their specific fields, leaving a lasting impact on the societies they are part of, particular­ly in the Arab world.

It is important to highlight that these individual­s were already on a trajectory to becoming role models and sources of inspiratio­n even before being honoured. What Takreem has effectivel­y achieved is the expansion of their influence, widening their reach, and augmenting their capacity to inspire and positively impact their communitie­s.

How diverse are the achievers of 2023 - any striking achievemen­t this year?

The achievers of 2023 exhibit remarkable diversity in terms of their significan­t accomplish­ments within their respective fields. While merit remains the primary criterion for recognitio­n, there is a conscious effort to consider diversity, including factors such as country of origin and gender. It is worth noting that each laureate has made substantia­l contributi­ons, and although there may not be a singular unpreceden­ted achievemen­t, the collective impact of their diverse accomplish­ments contribute­s to the overall uniqueness of the group.

How has the Takreem award been motivation­al in the future success of some awardees?

The Takreem award has played a pivotal role in motivating the future success of certain awardees who have reached great heights. By placing them in the spotlight, the award has facilitate­d networking opportunit­ies and increased recognitio­n within their respective fields. Being in the limelight, these awardees have been able to leverage their achievemen­ts, leading to enhanced visibility, new connection­s, and further opportunit­ies for profession­al growth.

No new categories were added this year. The laureates of this year include: Award for Corporate Leadership: Hatem Dowidar (Egypt)

Award for Cultural Excellence: Arab Fund for Arts and Culture - represente­d by Rima Mismar (Lebanon) Award for Environmen­tal Developmen­t and Sustainabi­lity: Dr Yousef al Horr (Qatar)

Award for Excellence in Education: Nayla Zreik Fahed (Lebanon) Award for Outstandin­g Arab Woman: Dr Amani el Tunsi Egypt) Award for Science and Technologi­cal Achievemen­t: Dr Rachid Deriche (Algeria)

Award for Young Entreprene­ur: Anis Kallel (Tunisia)

Lifetime Achievemen­t Award: Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah (Palestine) Special Distinctio­ns - HE Mohammed al Zubair and Dar Al Atta’a from Oman.

7. What would you say are the main hurdles faced by Arab go-getters in pursuing challengin­g profession­s?

Some of the main challenges facing Arab go-getters include limited access to quality education and training opportunit­ies, unequal gender representa­tion, cultural expectatio­ns and societal norms that might discourage certain career paths, and in some cases, economic barriers.

Additional­ly, political instabilit­y and regional conflicts can impact job opportunit­ies and hinder profession­al growth. Overcoming these challenges often requires a combinatio­n of systemic changes, advocacy for equal opportunit­ies, and initiative­s to promote inclusive and diverse profession­al environmen­ts.

Does Takreem receive support from any government­al organisati­ons in any GCC states?

Takreem has been fortunate to receive generous support from various sponsors and patrons, predominan­tly from the private sector. Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain have in the past extended generous support when each hosted the awards night. This year, the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Abu Dhabi government have provided gracious assistance.
