CDAA receives 273 emergency calls, rescues 441 people

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) received 273 emergency calls, while rescuing 441 people in Oman during the adverse weather condition from February 11-13.

In a statement, CDAA said, ‘The water rescue department received 127 reports of people getting stuck in wadis. Firefighti­ng teams dealt with 36 reports, while ambulance teams responded to 50 reports, in addition to 34 reports of road accidents. They also attended to reports of nine people getting stranded in buildings, besides 17 other reports.’

The authority once again urged people to follow instructio­ns and alerts issued by officials, and not risk attempting to cross wadis. It advised people to stay away from low-lying areas and avoid electricit­y poles during the continuati­on of such climatic conditions.

It also stated that children must be monitored when they leave the house and not swim unsupervis­ed in pools or the sea.

Isolated rain expected

Weather in Oman is expected to remain cloudy for the next 24 hours with chances of isolated rains in few areas.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), however, added that the weather is expected to gradually stabilise with chances of low cloud advection causing isolated rains on Thursday morning along the coastal areas of Oman.

Isolated rains were reported on Wednesday in the coastal and mountainou­s parts of Mu

sandam, North Batinah, South Batinah, South Sharkiyah, North Sharkiyah, Dakhylia, Al Wusta and Dhofar.

CAA advised all to take precaution during rainfall and flash floods and follow the weather bulletins and reports of the National Multi-hazard Early Warning Center.

Data collected from the rain monitoring stations of the Ministry of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) showed that Dibba recorded the highest amount of rainfall - 167mm - over four days from February 11 to 14 morning. This was followed by Yanqul (146mm), Al Qabil (144mm), Sur (139mm) and Buraimi (125mm) among others.
