Dhofar launches contest to convert youth ideas into projects
Dhofar governorate, in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Oman Development Bank and the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED), has started a competition called Qeemah (Value). This initiative aims to nurture youth creativity, transforming innovative ideas into tangible projects that contribute to the local economy and sustainability.
Outlining the objectives of Qeemah, an official of the governorate said it is focused on enhancing local value addition, fostering innovation and creating pioneering projects leveraging local resources and talent. "The contest seeks to uncover and develop national products and services, capitalise on competitive advantages for economic stability, and uplift innovation within Dhofar governorate. It also aims to find sustainable solutions and tap into the potential of local talents and communities," the official stated.
Open to all - creative individuals, innovators, entrepreneurs and university students in the governorate – Qeemah aims to identify the best innovative and sustainable ideas and solutions, transforming these into practical projects in three distinct categories.
The Wilayat Category is focused on innovations in natural resources, traditional crafts and local products from the wilayats of Dhofar for both local and international markets. The Corporate Category is designed for development and implementation of creative, innovative and sustainable solutions by large companies and institutions, while the Nakheel Dhofar Category is focused on production, packaging and sale of coconuts in and outside the governorate.
Through the competition, Dhofar seeks to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators, providing a platform for their ideas to flourish and contribute positively to the local and global markets.
