National Museum of Oman's Learning Centre hosted the premiere of More than a Teacher: A Story from Oman, a documentary showcasing the educational ties between Oman and the United States.

The screening on Sunday was graced by Dr Madiha Ahmed al Shaibani, Minister of Education, among others marking a significant moment in Oman's cultural and educational outreach.

Produced by Aisha Sahar Wahid al Kharousi, the documentary celebrates Oman's storied past, vibrant present and bright future through Don Yager's journey.

An American educator, Yager played a pivotal role in The Sultan's School scholarship programme from 1980 to 2005, a testament to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said's visionary leadership.

Yager's story serves as a poignant example of the bilateral relations between Oman and the US, underscoring the late sultan’s emphasis on education as a cornerstone of the nation's renaissance.

"This documentary not only commemorates Oman's enduring friendship with the United States but also highlights the promising opportunities that lie within Oman's renewed renaissance under His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik," Aisha said.

Nayef bin Ali al Abri, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority and a graduate of the scholarship, remarked, "The film narrates the story of a man deeply rooted in this land, showcasing Oman's rich cultural and tourism heritage."

Yager himself reflected on the documentary as a celebration of the kinship he shares with his students, highlighting the significant achievements and development contributions of the programme's alumni. "The film is a testament to the special bond that Americans residing in Oman have with this country, showcasing the modern renaissance of Oman and its achievements across various domains," Yager added.

The documentary offers a cinematic journey through Oman's scenic beauty, cultural richness and historical depth, aiming to promote the sultanate's touristic and cultural heritage globally. It is a collaborative effort by Omanis in production, direction, editing and music, illustrating the nation's creative prowess.

The documentary will be screened at The Sultan's School and in the United States, in partnership with educational and cultural institutions, as part of a broader effort to highlight Oman's unique story to a global audience.
