Congress General Secretary in charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh on Monday said that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will be paused on Tuesday morning as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been issued a summon to appear before the district civil court in Sultanpur in connection with a defamation case.

In a social media post on X, the Congress general secretary informed that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra which has entered its 37th day on Monday, will be paused on Tuesday morning and will resume from Fursatganj in Amethi at 2pm.

“Rahul Gandhi has been issued a summons to appear in the district civil court in Sultanpur tomorrow morning in connection with a defamation case filed by a BJP leader on August 4h, 2018. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will, therefore, pause tomorrow morning and will resume at 2pm from Fursatganj in Amethi,” the Congress leader posted on X.

Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by MP/MLA court in connection with a 2018 case

over using derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a Bengaluru conference. The complaint was filed by the then BJP district vice

president Vijay Mishra.

“Rahul Gandhi had accused Amit Shah in Bengaluru that he is a murderer. When I heard these allegations, I felt very

pained because I am a 33-yearold worker of the party. I filed a complaint regarding this through my lawyer and this continued for almost five years,”

Vijay Mishra told ANI earlier.

Santosh Kumar Pandey, a lawyer who appeared for Vijay Mishra said that Rahul Gandhi can be given a maximum punishment of two years if sufficient evidence is found against him.

SP chief Yadav sets condition

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has made his participation in the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra conditional to a decision on seat sharing, saying that he will be joining it the moment the seats for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are distributed between the two parties.

“Right now talks are going on, lists have come from their side and from ours as well, the moment the seats are distributed and decided, the Samajwadi

Party will join Congress’s Nyaya Yatra,” Yadav said speaking to reporters on Monday.

The Samajwadi Party and the Congress are partners in the INDIA bloc. The success of the seat sharing talks between the two are crucial, especially after the failure of such talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has decided to contest in her state alone.

The Samajwadi Party president had come to pay his obeisance to Acharya Narendra Deva on his death anniversary.

“Acharya Narender had strengthened and given a new direction to the socialist movement. Socialists have a lot to learn from his life. So we come back here every time,” Yadav said speaking on the contributions of the freedom fighter.

Speaking about the significance of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Yadav said: “The 2024 elections are significant. It is an election to save the Constitution and save the future of the country, save Ganga-jamuni Tehzeeb, to save fraternity.”
