The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MHUP) has announced a comprehensive development strategy for Musandam governorate, entailing 74 projects with investment exceeding RO540 million.

The strategy aligns with Royal Directives to bolster growth across various sectors, including trade, logistics, industry, tourism, fishing, agriculture, education, health, aviation and food security.

An MHUP official stated, “Musandam's development focuses on multiple sectors, including significant projects like the Al Jaradiyah commercial residential plan in Madha, spread over 170,000sqm, and construction of 60 housing units across the governorate, including 20 in Kumzar.”

The strategy reflects His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s commitment to fostering growth and prosperity in Musandam, particularly in housing and urban planning.

The Roubai project, part of the national Sorouh Project, is a notable venture underway. Spanning over 403,000sqm, it features more than 800 residential units and a financial and business centre, including medical clinics, administrative buildings, a commercial centre and a hotel. “This project emphasises a contemporary lifestyle with green spaces and recreational facilities,” the MHUP official informed.

Additionally, the ministry’s Khuwair Residential Plan in Kumzar, covering 500,000sqm, is nearly complete. This project comprises 300 residential units, a plan for light industries, a desalination and sewage plant, educational and health facilities, and road infrastructure.

"Musandam has seen establishment of significant projects like two fish farming ventures, spread over 1.6mn sqm, and a 105,000sqm agricultural research and innovation centre.”

Plans for the Mahas Industrial Zone and agricultural city, spanning 1.5mn sqm and 462,000sqm respectively, have also been announced.

In the education and healthcare sector, establishment of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences and Khasab Hospital, covering 230,000sqm and 116,000sqm respectively, mark significant milestones.

Musandam is also progressing in renewable energy with allocation of 18 sites for wind turbines on an area exceeding 4,050sqm, and three solar energy sites spread over 161,000sqm.

Developments in aviation infrastructure are also evident with over 1.2mn sqm allocated to two runways in Dibba and Madha.

Downtown Khasab, a multipurpose city centre, is another key project enhancing Musandam's commercial, tourist, residential and recreational appeal.

“From 2021 to 2023, the ministry prepared 13 housing plans in Musandam, including 298 housing units in Khasab and Bukha, 129 housing aids worth Ro3.1mn, and 54 usufruct contracts to stimulate economic growth,” the official added.
