Global conference on sustainability of heritage from Feb 24
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair for World Heritage Management and Sustainable Tourism in the Arab Region, will host an international conference titled ‘Opportunities for Heritage: Fostering Innovation, Conservation and Sustainability’. Scheduled from February 24 to 27, the event will take place at German University of Technology in Oman, Halban.
To open under the patronage of H E Salim Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, the conference will delve into the economic and social potentials of tangible and intangible heritage. The meet represents a commitment at the highest levels to the preservation and innovative utilisation of heritage for sustainable development.
An official from MHT outlined the conference's focus on identifying and leveraging heritage as a driver for economic and social growth. Key themes include addressing heritage conservation in conflict situations, financing mechanisms for heritage and tourism at World Heritage sites, and exploring cutting-edge approaches for heritage management that consider long-term sustainability and environmental impacts.
