MOHERI opens applications for research funding programme
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has started accepting research proposals for its 2024 Block Funding Programme.
The application form is accessible through the Research Information Management System (RIMS) on Oman Research Portal - https://rims.trc.gov.om. Research funding is available in three distinct categories: Research Grants, Graduate Research Grants and Undergraduate Research Grants.
The Research Grants category is tailored for PHD holders or individuals with equivalent qualifications, including senior specialists and medical doctors, and provides a maximum of two years for project completion and an allocated budget of
RO20,000 for each project.
Graduate Research Grants are designed for individuals holding a master’s or bachelor’s degree with at least one year of professional experience, or Oman Medical Speciality Board residents, offering a similar two-year project duration with funding of RO3,000 per project.
Undergraduate students who have successfully completed their foundation year and maintained a GPA of no less than 2.30 are eligible to apply for Undergraduate Research Grants. The programme supports projects up to one year with a budget of RO1,500.
Eligibility for the 2024 Block Funding Programme is subject to specific criteria. Applicants, whether principal investigators or co-principal investigators, must have been affiliated with their respective institutions between
October and December 2023. Conditions also stipulate that applicants must not have any ongoing or incomplete projects funded by MOHERI, with additional provisions for Undergraduate Research Grants candidates regarding their graduation status.
Importantly, proposed research projects must be original and not previously initiated or completed. Members of institutional focal points, evaluation committees and those with potential conflict of interest are not eligible to apply, ensuring the integrity and novelty of the research. The deadline for submission to the programme is set for May 30, 2024. For more details, applicants can email Bfp@moheri. gov.om
