Exhibition held to celebrate cinema through art

In a fusion of art and cinema, an exhibition titled ‘Bioscope: Posters Reimagined’ brought together nearly 100 art and film aficionados at the Platinum Hall in Oman Avenues Mall.

Organised by Rangrez, an art collective of the Indian Social Club, the event opened on Sunday, capturing the essence of elegance, nostalgia, and wonder.

The two-day exhibition featured a captivating collection of movie posters, ranging from the silent era and the golden age of Hollywood to contemporary Bollywood classics.

Thirty artists displayed their creativity across various mediums - including pencils, sketch pens, sewn thread, oil, and acrylic - to reimagine iconic movie posters and their titles.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Humaid Said al Amri, chairman, Oman Film Society and Reena Jain, First Secretary (Culture) at the Embassy of India in Oman.

Among the celebrated films were Good, Bad and Ugly, Avatar, City Lights, Devdas, Mughal-e-azam, Sholay, Pakeezah and The Sound of Music, beside others. Each piece was a hand-painted tribute, meticulously designed to captivate viewers and honour the rich legacy of cinema.

Curated by artist Shalini Verma, the exhibition served as a vibrant homage to film.

“The exhibition spans Bollywood to Hollywood, showcasing the artistic prowess of participants who re-imagined posters from beloved movies across genres,” Shalini stated.

“Bioscope: Posters Reimagined not only celebrates the enduring charm of cinema but also provides a platform for local artists to display their talent and pay homage to the magic of the silver screen.”

The event underscored the unique intersection of moviemaking and painting, offering a rare glimpse into the artistic reinterpretation of film through visual art.

It stood as a testament to the timeless connection between two forms of creative expression, bringing together filmmakers, painters, cinema lovers, graphic artists, and writers in a shared appreciation of art and cinema.
