24 teams to take part in OQ’S Ramadan Football Championship
As part of OQ’S dedication to sports and youth development, and to enhance their skills and talents through various sporting activities, the OQ Ramadan Championship is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
Nearly 600 players, including Omanis and residents divided into 24 teams, will participate in this event, which is one of the annual sports activities held during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The group’s arrangement of the tournament forms part of its commitment to supporting the community, demonstrating its social responsibility. OQ recognises the significant role of sports within its social investment programme and branding strategies.
Annually, it sponsors a multitude of initiatives, events, and sporting activities, actively contributing to the advancement of Omani sports. Furthermore, it actively encourages its employees to partake in sports by providing facilities and necessary equipment, with the aim of promoting public health and fostering a healthy work-life balance.
OQ has been organising football competitions for the local community since the 1980s. This tournament stands out as one of the most sought-after Ramadan competitions for local teams in the Muscat governorate, attracting 24 teams from across the governorate and nearby areas.
The teams have been organised into four groups, each consisting of six stages. In the first group, the Youth of Zahia team leads the pack, alongside Future, Sod Roy, Shabab, Sayh Al Dhaba, and WK teams.
OQ Refinery heads the second group, accompanied by teams such as Cosmos, Al Mutaa, Al Najd Sports, Al Ghala Sports, and Al Noor Sports. The third group, captained by the Al Sahwa team, features Al Mahout, Brothers Stars, Al Wahda, Diesel, and Al Maliki.
Lastly, the fourth and final group is helmed by the Zak team, joined by Al Ahli Club, Roy Club,
Rawasco Al Hail, Al Merrikh Club, and Al Aila Club. The tournament commences on Tuesday, with matches scheduled daily except on Fridays throughout the holy month of Ramadan at the Group Stadium in Al Fahl Port. The ultimate showdown will occur on April 6 (Saturday).
The organising committee has established the tournament system, with 24 teams participating and divided into four groups, each consisting of six teams determined by a draw.
Priority has been given to longstanding teams in the tournament, based on their position in the team rankings table.
Additionally, each year, four new teams are given the opportunity to participate after an assessment of their performance in external competitions and recommendations from the organising committee.
Each participating team is permitted to register a maximum of 20 players aged sixteen and above, with those born before April 2007 listed on their rosters for the entire tournament duration. The deadline for submitting the initial player registration list is 12:00pm on the first day of Ramadan.
