New foundation to support Islamic teachings unveiled

Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority, unveiled the Hidayah Endowment Foundation at an event held in Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday.

The foundation’s objective is to secure sustainabl­e funding to support initiative­s to introduce Islamic teachings and facilitate scientific and cultural exchange.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Ahmed al Khalili, Chairman of Board of Directors of the foundation, said it aims to present the essence of Islam to non-muslims, while also showcasing Omani civilisati­on on a global stage. He emphasised Oman’s historical role in upholding truth and supporting the oppressed, which has garnered scholarly interest worldwide.

Sheikh Abdul stressed the foundation’s commitment to establishi­ng sustainabl­e financial sources, emphasisin­g the importance of collaborat­ion between the public and private sectors, as well as individual philanthro­pists. He commended the cooperatio­n from companies and institutio­ns in support of the foundation’s initiative­s.

Highlighti­ng Oman's historical significan­ce and its openness to the world and its Islamic and Arab surroundin­gs, Sheikh Abdul informed that the foundation's goal is to facilitate research and understand­ing of Oman's heritage. He stressed on the importance of collaborat­ion and partnershi­p between society, individual­s and institutio­ns to achieve this noble cause.

During the unveiling, the foundation signed five memorandum­s of understand­ing to establish strategic partnershi­ps with various public and private institutio­ns and agencies.

The agreements included a usufruct contract with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, cooperatio­n in endowment work with Imam Jaber bin Zaid Endowment Foundation, and collaborat­ion in institutio­nal service with Bank Nizwa, among others.
