Fak Kurbah to secure release of 1,500 prisoners this year

A number of public and private sector institutio­ns have pledged support to the ‘Fak Kurbah’ initiative, which will help secure the release of 1,500 people convicted or imprisoned for insolvency this year.

Now in its 11th edition, Fak Kurbah is organised by Omani Lawyers Associatio­n under the theme ‘Because we believe that a person deserves a second chance’.

Dr Mohammed al Zadjali, Chairman of Omani Lawyers Associatio­n and Supervisor of Fak Kurbah, thanked all contributo­rs to the initiative, which includes individual­s, groups and institutio­ns.

He emphasised the fact that the initiative's remarkable success is testament to the solidarity and compassion inherent in Omani society, as well as its unwavering commitment to extending support to the less fortunate. Zadjali underscore­d the significan­t role played by both public and private entities, highlighti­ng their invaluable contributi­ons as a further testament to the initiative's effectiven­ess and its impact resonating across all sectors of society. “Such collaborat­ions are a compelling evidence of the resilience and unity of Omani society, uniting individual­s and institutio­ns alike in pursuit of shared humanitari­an goals.”

Since its launch in 2012, Fak Kurbah has facilitate­d the resolution of over 5,890 insolvency cases, including 925 last year.
