Cartoon series promotes Omani culture, sense of national pride

Ayn, a platform affiliated to Ministry of Information, has launched a cartoon series tailored for children during the month of Ramadan. Besides entertainment, the series aims to educate and promote Omani culture nurturing holistic development among its audience.
Titled Wissam's Travels, the series is the brainchild of Zainab bint Said al Hashimi, who scripted an engaging narrative, with Mishal al Mashari helming direction duties.
In an interview with Muscat Daily, Zainab shared insights into the inspiration behind Wissam's Travels. She explained that the series of eight episodes draws heavily from Omani folklore and traditions passed down through generations. “Oman boasts a rich tapestry of history and culture, brimming with myths and tales that ignite the imagination. Ayn platform endeavours to enchant children with the adventures of the series’ protagonists, Wissam and Wiam.”
The narrative unfolds as Wissam and Wiam embark on exploratory journeys across various regions in the sultanate. Through captivating animation and storytelling, the series immerses young viewers in a world of wonder and discovery, incorporating famous Omani myths and landmarks like Al Hota Cave, Bidiyah, Masirah and Tiwi.
"Beyond mere entertainment, Wissam's Travels serves as a vehicle for education, instilling valuable lessons in courage, friendship and generosity. It imparts essential values such as loyalty, cooperation and a thirst for adventure, fostering holistic development among its audience."
Shedding light on the challenges encountered during the production process, Zainab underscored a meticulous effort to bring the stories to life. “From adapting traditional tales to sourcing animation companies, every step was planned to ensure the programme's success.”
The team's perseverance paid off as evidenced by the enthusiastic reception from schoolchildren following the screening of a pilot episode.
Zainab envisions Omani cartoons winning international acclaim, propelled by a talented cadre of creators and a commitment to excellence in storytelling and visual design.
