Pacts worth Ro322mn to power up electricity transmission sector

OETC to sign agreements for Rabt Phase 2 and Dhofar network expansion projects

In a major infrastructure development for the electricity sector, Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) will sign agreements worth over Ro322mn for the nationally important Rabt Phase 2 project and expansion of Dhofar’s electricity network.

The signing will be held on Sunday at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre under the patronage of Dr Mansour Talib al Hinai, Chairman of Authority for Public Services Regulation.

The Rabt project, also referred to as the North-south Interconnection Project, aims to create a unified electricity grid in the sultanate, connecting the Main Integrated System Network with Dhofar’s electricity network by establishing transmission lines between the 400/132kv Duqm Grid Station and the 400/132kv Dhofar Grid Station. A 400kv

Switching Station will also be established in the Shaleem area.

The project will contribute to upgrading the electricity sector, reduce costs and help achieve the sultanate’s Net-zero Carbon Neutrality Goal by 2050, OETC stated.

Additionally, the Rabt project involves laying electricity transmission lines over 590km.

The electricity transmission network expansion projects in Dhofar, worth Ro65mn, will see the establishment of 132kv electricity transmission lines over 269km. These transmission lines will connect Al Mazyuna and Shahab Aseeb via Mudhi. The project includes construction of three grid stations operating at 132kv.

Saleh al Rumhi, CEO at OETC, affirmed the company’s continuous efforts and dedication to enhancement and development of its different operations. “OETC is ensuring expansion of the electricity transmission network by establishing new grid stations or further developing previous projects, and laying high-voltage electricity transmission lines. All these efforts aim to upgrade the transmission network, leveling up its efficiency and ensuring reliability, sustainability and security.”

He added that OETC is working to enhance and develop the network’s performance, in line with increasing demand in the electricity sector, and to serve the development journey of the sultanate.

OETC, a member of Nama Group, is the only company responsible for transmission and control of electricity in the sultanate. Additionally, OETC manages the interconnection lines between the sultanate and the Gulf interconnection network with a voltage of 220kv.
