Envisioning a future of mutual growth

- H E Imran Ali Pakistan’s Ambassador to Oman

On the occasion of the National Day of Pakistan, I wish to express my best wishes and regards to the brotherly government and the people of the Sultanate of Oman, and to Pakistani residents in this beautiful country who contribute to the development and the social milieu of Oman while earning their livelihoods here.

Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who fought for provincial autonomy and rights of the Muslims of India for 31 years, which led to the creation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in 1947. March 23, 1940, marks the Magna Carta for the creation of Pakistan - the Lahore Resolution, which called for statehood for contiguous Muslim majority areas in the West and East of India.

Pakistan’s constitutionalism is reflected in robust democratic institutions in the centre and the six regions of Pakistan, its strong judiciary and press, and a robust civil society.

The unity and federalism of Pakistan are now comparable to the best federal systems in the world. The extraordinary devolution of administrative, legislative and financial powers to the provinces and regions after the 18th Constitutional Amendment has forever fortified the hyphen that joins Pakistan’s diverse political tributaries into a wholesome and united state. This was brought about by the current ruling coalition 14 years ago.

The Kartarpur Corridor, allowing Sikhs around the world unprecedented access from India is just one symbol of Pakistan’s trajectory towards tolerance, pluralism, and diverse and multiple identities. This trajectory runs counter to right wing movements regionally and globally.

To contribute towards economic revival of Pakistan by significantly expanding the Investment pie from foreign and domestic sources, achieving macro-economic stability, bringing socio-economic prosperity and reclaiming a rightful stature among the comity of nations,

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership came together to form the SIFC, the Special Investment Facilitation Council, which aims to bring in Foreign Investment as well as act the premier economic decision making body.

Pakistan has augmented its defence because of its geopolitical surroundings. Pakistan Army, Air force and Navy are now modernising themselves and also helping create stability in the region as well as brotherly countries in the gulf.

Pakistan and Oman enjoy great fraternal ties not only rooted in history, religion and geography, but most importantly in the warmth, respect and love between our two peoples. We have strong bilateral ties especially in political, economic and defence spheres and our two navies have very close cooperation.

In the end, I would like to avail myself of this opportunity to express my best wishes for His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s everlasting health and happiness and for the continued progress, stability and prosperity of the brotherly Sultanate of Oman. I thank the Government of Oman for its cooperation and all Omanis for their love and continuous support which is a manifestation of our centuries old bond. I am confident that our relations will further strengthen in times to come.

Long live Pakistan-oman Friendship!
