MOE celebrates Down Syndrome International Day on March 21
The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-general of Special Education and Continuous Learning and the School of Intellectual Education, celebrated Down Syndrome International Day, which this year comes with the slogan ‘Ending the Stereotype’, under the patronage of artist Alia al Farsi, and in the presence of Dr Thuraiya al Rashidi, director-general of the Directorate-general of Special Education and Continuous Learning.
The celebration took place at the School of Intellectual Education, coinciding with the celebration of the Down Syndrome International Day, which falls on March 21 every year in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution, a press release said.
The ceremony included the inauguration of the logo of the School of Intellectual Education, which includes symbolic connotations of the mentally disabled students who need care until they gradually acquire skills with their own care. During the ceremony, the winning videos were shown in a competition to produce a video carrying a message for people with Down Syndrome, which was announced by the School of Intellectual Education. After that, the patronage of the ceremony, artist Alia Al Farsi, honoured the winners of the competition.
The celebration was accompanied by an exhibition aimed at highlighting the artistic works of students with Down Syndrome, and the presentation of the
Banan Student Company, which is concerned with printing students’ drawings on fabric, in addition to the presentation of the ‘With Us, Your Lesson is More Enjoyable’ initiative, which is an initiative targeting students with mental disabilities, based on the principles of designing interactive electronic content, that begins with the analysis phase and ends with the production phase of interactive lessons in which the student is the focus of the learning process.
