11th edition of Sultan Qaboos Award exclusively for Omanis
Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science unveiled the 11th edition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature on Sunday.
The announcement was made by Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary-general of the centre, during a press conference held at Institute of Islamic Sciences in Muscat.
This year's edition will be dedicated to Omani nationals.
Elaborating on the award's objectives, Riyami said, “The Sultan Qaboos Award is a tribute to the intellectual, artistic and literary efforts that contribute towards the renewal of thought and upliftment of human consciousness. It celebrates the Omani legacy and its enduring contributions to human civilisation, both tangible and intellectual, in different fields. This year, we have chosen to focus solely on Omanis to high

light and honour their ongoing cultural achievements.”
The award spans three main categories - culture, arts and literature - each encompassing a broad array of disciplines.
This year, the award themes are focused on Omani environmental studies for the culture category, radio programmes for the arts, and eloquent Arabic poetry for literature.
The culture category usually encompasses a wide spectrum of human and social sciences, including but not limited to language, history, heritage, philosophy, translation, economic and sociology studies, as well as media and communication.
In the arts category, the award recognises diverse artistic expressions such as music, fine art, sculpture, photography and theatrical arts, including acting, directing and performance. The literature category is devoted to celebrating literary excellence in poetry, novels, short stories, literary criticism and more.
