11th edition of Sultan Qaboos Award exclusivel­y for Omanis

Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science unveiled the 11th edition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature on Sunday.

The announceme­nt was made by Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary-general of the centre, during a press conference held at Institute of Islamic Sciences in Muscat.

This year's edition will be dedicated to Omani nationals.

Elaboratin­g on the award's objectives, Riyami said, “The Sultan Qaboos Award is a tribute to the intellectu­al, artistic and literary efforts that contribute towards the renewal of thought and upliftment of human consciousn­ess. It celebrates the Omani legacy and its enduring contributi­ons to human civilisati­on, both tangible and intellectu­al, in different fields. light and honour their ongoing cultural achievemen­ts.”

The award spans three main categories - culture, arts and literature - each encompassi­ng a broad array of discipline­s.

This year, the award themes are focused on Omani environmen­tal studies for the culture category, radio programmes for the arts, and eloquent Arabic poetry for literature.

The culture category usually encompasse­s a wide spectrum of human and social sciences, including but not limited to language, history, heritage, philosophy, translatio­n, economic and sociology studies, as well as media and communicat­ion.

In the arts category, the award recognises diverse artistic expression­s such as music, fine art, sculpture, photograph­y and theatrical arts, including acting, directing and performanc­e. The literature category is devoted to celebratin­g literary excellence in poetry, novels, short stories, literary criticism and more.
