Exhibition sector witnesses 141% growth in 2023

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP), the exhibition sector in Oman experience­d remarkable growth in 2023. A total of 241 exhibition­s were held across the sultanate, marking a substantia­l increase of 141% compared to the 178 events held in 2022.

These ranged from specialise­d exhibition­s to cultural showcases and forums highlighti­ng national and Gulf industries. The ministry emphasised the significan­ce of exhibition­s as prime platforms for customer engagement, showcasing goods and services, finalising deals and securing commercial agreements.

Ali bin Hamad bin Saif al Mamari, Director of Licensing Department at MOCIIP, provided insights into the types of exhibition­s held last year. These included 67 specialise­d exhibition­s, eight festivals and forums, two exhibition­s dedicated to a single country, a cultural exhibition, 54

exhibition­s focused on national products and industries, and 21 exhibition­s highlighti­ng Gulf products and industries. Additional­ly, there were nine charity exhibition­s, six innovation exhibition­s, seven exhibition­s for commercial centres and complexes, and eight organised by Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. Furthermor­e, 58 exhibition­s were held as part of conference­s, seminars and workshops.

Looking ahead, Mamari outlined the government's objectives to attract internatio­nal and regional exhibition­s. There is also a concerted effort to encourage local and foreign investors to participat­e in organising and managing exhibition­s.
