Convenience boosts online shopping during Ramadan
The fear of crowded markets, coupled with the convenience of online platforms has transformed the way people shop for Ramadan.
In recent times, electronic stores and applications that provide a wide range of products have increasingly been preferred for the essentials needed for the Ramadan preparations. This change in shopping behaviour is not only driven by the wish to avoid crowded markets but also by the convenience and efficiency that online shopping offers.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, experts and citizens shared their insights on this emerging trend.
Homemaker Sabina Siddique advocated the use of online shopping during Ramadan. "Online shopping allows efficient planning by placing orders in advance, thus avoiding the rush. It's crucial to shop from reputable sources, known for their prompt and reliable service, ensuring the freshness of products," Sabina emphasised.
This approach not only streamlines Ramadan preparations but also minimises food wastage by focusing on essential purchases.
Ahmed al Balushi, a teacher, prefers online shopping as it allows better focus on spiritual practices and family engagements during Ramadan. He pointed out the annoyance of crowded markets and raised prices, which online shopping circumvents, offering a peaceful alternative for purchasing necessities and Eid clothing. “Ramadan is the month of building family ties, forgiveness and tolerance. We should devote maximum time to worshiping and fulfilling our duties rather than wasting time in markets.”
Economic analyst Nasser al Hosani underscored the convenience and efficiency of online shopping, which has seen a surge during Ramadan. "The ability to shop from home, avoiding crowded markets and travel time, adds to the appeal of online shopping," he stated.
He also highlighted the advantages of customer reviews and the ease of having products delivered to one's doorstep as key factors contributing to the growing trend. “The flexibility to shop at any time enables individuals to balance their obligations during the holy month, such as reciting the Quran, performing Tarawih prayers and visiting relatives.”
However, Hosani advised consumers to exercise caution and choose reputable and officially recognised online platforms, ensuring a secure and satisfactory shopping experience.
This trend towards digital marketplaces reflects a broader shift in consumer preferences, underscoring the importance of adaptability and security in online transactions.
