Peak of weather disturbanc­e on Tuesday night: CAA

Analysis of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning System at Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) indicate that the peak of the current weather condition affecting the sultanate will be on Tuesday night.

Aisha bint Juma al Qasimia, meteorolog­ist at CAA, said rains will intensify during the evening hours of Monday. The peak of the impact will hit from Tuesday midnight till Wednesday dawn.

She added that Tuesday will witness the third wave of the current depression, the most intense in terms of impact.

As per CAA’S weather bulletin, Musandam is likely to experience intense thundersto­rms, accompanie­d by strong downdraft winds and hail, and rain of between 50mm to 150mm. Buraimi, Dhahirah, North Batinah and Dakhliyah are expected to receive 30mm to 120mm of rain, which may lead to flash floods.

Rain of varied intensity are also on the horizon in Muscat, South Batinah, South Sharqiyah, North Sharqiyah, and the northern parts of Al Wusta.

Isolated showers are expected in Dhofar on Tuesday, CAA stated.

According to the forecast, the effects will continue till Wednesday evening with rain of varying intensity in Dakhliyah, North Sharqiyah and South Sharqiyah.

Khalid received 159mm of rain from April 14 to April 15. Other areas also witnessed considerab­le downpours, with Ibra, Mudhaibi and Sinaw receiving 126mm of rain each, Bidiyah 114mm, Al Qabil 109mm, Quriyat 100mm, Sur 99mm, Izki 95mm, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan 90mm, Amerat 80mm, Yanqul 68mm and Bahla 64mm.

These developmen­ts suggest that Oman's readiness for adverse weather conditions will be tested. The importance of heeding warnings cannot be overstated to ensure public safety and to minimise disruption­s.
