Oman, Uzbekistan sign agreement to boost cooperatio­n

H E Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, met Bakhtiyor Saidov, Foreign Minister of Republic of Uzbekistan, on his visit to the Uzbek capital Tashkent to take part in the second ministeria­l meeting of strategic dialogue between Gulf Cooperatio­n Council and Central Asian countries.

The ministers discussed further cooperatio­n between Oman and Uzbekistan in several fields, especially trade, investment, education and culture.

The foreign ministers also signed an agreement that will strengthen and develop future cooperatio­n strategy.

They discussed opportunit­ies to enhance trade and expand economic partnershi­ps focused on energy, transport, agricultur­e and industry, while encouragin­g business between Omani and Uzbek companies.

They agreed on the importance of exchanging expertise and programmes between universiti­es and educationa­l institutio­ns, enhancing cultural exchange and organising joint cultural events to enhance friendship between Oman and Uzbekistan.

The meeting was attended by H E Al Sayyida Wafa Jabr Nasser al Busaidi, Oman's Ambassador­designate to Uzbekistan, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel al Maskari, Head of Foreign Ministry's GCC Department, H E Abdusalam Khatamov, Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Oman, and several officials from both countries.
