Heavy to moderate rains lashed several governorates in the last three days, according to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

In a statement, CAA said, ‘A number of wadis overflowed and there were low clouds and fog in most parts of Oman.’

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR), Mahda recorded 183mm rainfall from Sunday, April 14, till 5pm on April 16.

Data collected from the rain monitoring stations of MAFWR showed Liwa received 180mm of rainfall, Wadi Bani Khalid 159mm, Bidiyah and Shinas 128mm each, Sinaw, Mudhaibi, Al Qabil and Ibra 126mm each, Yanqul 116mm, Al Awabi 114mm, Al Kamil Wal Wafi 107mm, Ibri and Izki 105mm each, Quriyat 104mm, Sur 99mm, Jaan Bani Bu Hassan 90mm and Amerat 86mm.

Meanwhile, Royal Oman Police (ROP) has stressed that it will deal firmly with anyone who exposes himself/herself or others to the risks of crossing overflowing wadis.

ROP called on everyone to be vigilant and take all necessary precautions to secure their property, given that the sultanate is currently being affected by adverse weather conditions.

It also called on motorists to maintain safe distance between vehicles while driving in heavy rains or rising dust. Additionally, it urged fishermen and boat owners to not go to sea before checking weather reports.

Clean-up drive

South Batinah Municipality conducted clean-up drives following heavy rains that hit the governorate on Tuesday. ‘The municipality has conducted several campaigns to clean sites, removing debris resulting after the rains,’ it stated.

Elsewhere, North Sharqiyah Municipality announced that municipal workers were deployed in various wilayats, including Mudhaibi, Al Qabil and Wadi Bani Khalid, on Tuesday to remove debris from roads affected by the ongoing rains.
