National Museum showcases Habsi football memorabilia
National Museum on Oman, in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, unveiled a collection of memorabilia belonging to international goalkeeper Ali bin Abdullah al Habsi on Wednesday.
The collection includes Habsi's medal from his 20122013 English Football Association Cup victory playing with Wigan Athletic and the jersey worn during the final match at Wembley Stadium.
The final, held on May 11, 2013, saw Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City 1-0, marking a historic win for the club.
The exhibition aims to celebrate and document Habsi's illustrious career and his contribution to football both in Oman and internationally.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by prominent figures including Jamal bin Hassan al Moosawi, Secretary-general of National Museum, and H E Bassel bin Ahmed al Rawas, Undersecretary for Sports and Youth in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, among other dignitaries and Habsi himself.
On the occasion, Moosawi expressed his pride in showcasing Habsi’s achievements. "We are honoured to exhibit memorabilia of the achievements of our veteran goalkeeper Habsi here at the National Museum. This exhibition not only highlights his inspiring journey and stature in the world of football but also aims to inspire our youth to achieve greatness through dedication and hard work," he stated.
Sharing his feelings about the recognition of his sporting achievements, Habsi said, "I am proud and delighted to inaugurate this corner showcasing my sporting achievements. These achievements, attained by the grace of Allah, represent my journey as a professional football player where I had the honour of representing our beloved country for two decades."
He also emphasised how recognition and motivation are crucial for success and how linking athletes' accomplishments to national heritage can inspire future generations to strive for excellence.
