Bait al Zubair exhibits historic moments of Italian football

A photo exhibition dedicated to historical moments of Italian football was inaugurate­d at Bait al Zubair museum on Wednesday.

Titled ‘Welcome to Azzurri: An Italian Football Journey,’ the exhibition features 34 pictures that captured spectacula­r moments of the Italian national football team.

The exhibition, organised by the Embassy of Italy in collaborat­ion with Bait al Zubair, will continue till May 15. The opening was attended by football players, coaches and football fans from the Omani and Italian communitie­s.

Addressing the opening ceremony, H E Pierluigi D'ella, Ambassador of Italy to Oman, said, “This exhibition is born from the passion for football in both Italy and Oman. The sport has always reflected the core of our nations, summed up in unity and discipline.”

He added, “Italy and Oman share solid ties in various sectors, and this exhibition is testimony of the importance of sports in bringing people closer and sharing unique moments in history. Italian Legend Beppe Dossena will make a special appearance

and enrich us and a number of Omani coaches with his winning strategy.”

The event was graced by H E Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Undersecre­tary for Sports and Youth in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, as guest of honour, and Dossena - a member of the Azzurri that won the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.

Fahad al Hasni, Curator of Exhibition­s at Bait al Zubair, said, “As a cultural institutio­n, we are delighted to partner with the Embassy of Italy in Muscat to present this captivatin­g exhibition. It is a testament to the power of sports in fostering cultural exchange and understand­ing. Football is more than just a game; it's a bridge that connects people from different corners of the world. Through this exhibition, we hope to strengthen bonds between Italy and Oman and inspire future collaborat­ions.”

Following the photo exhibition, Dossena will conduct a workshop for a group of Omani profession­al football coaches on ‘Strategy and Winning’ organised by the embassy with the support of Oman Football Associatio­n.

Karthik Prabhakara, Managing Consultant and CEO of Grism Consulting, a guest at the event, described the exhibition was enthrallin­g. “Being a fan of Italian football, I truly enjoyed it. I saw all my childhood heroes on display”.

He added that Italian coaches are some of the best and this exhibition also forges a strong partnershi­p between Oman and Italy. “Going forward, I would like to see top Italian coaches teach their football philosophi­es to Omani football teams which will boost the level of football in the sultanate.”
