ABA Oman students break 7 records in MESAC event

Students of ABA Oman Internatio­nal School created history by breaking 7 records at the Middle East South Asia Conference (MESAC) Track and Field Championsh­ips held at the American School of Doha. ABA athletes took 8 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze to break records previously unbeaten for 11 years!

In addition, the Junior Varsity (JV) Boys team secured the bronze medal overall.

Aqil Shameer and Magnus Gohring broke 3 MESAC records each. Aqil secured the top spot with the best timings in JV Boys 800m in 2:05.35, JV Boys 1500m in 4:21.27, and JV Boys 3000m in 9:39.40. Magnus made a historic record in the Varsity Boys 100m heats with a record time of 10.90, breaking a 14-year old record of under 11 seconds being witnessed for the first time ever.

He also broke the Varsity Boys 200m record in the heats with a time of 21:75. Magnus then went on to break his own Varsity Boys record from day 1 in the 100m final on day 3 in 10.72 seconds!

The ABA Varsity Boys team of Aqil Shameer, Magnus Gohring, Christian Sutton and Marat Lukmanov also broke the MESAC record for the 4 x 400m relay in a time of 1:33.08.

Sarah Harman, Athletics Director at ABA, commended the dedication and hard work of the students and coaches. “This achievemen­t is a testament to the dedication, skill, and hard work of our students and coaches. We are immensely proud of their accomplish­ments and the mark they have left in MESAC history,” she said.

“The tournament, featuring 350 athletes from around the region, was a truly memorable experience for both players and spectators,” she added.

In addition to showcasing prowess in track and field this season, ABA students also exhibited remarkable skill and resilience in badminton, softball, and Speech and Debate competitio­ns. In badminton, both Junior Varsity and Varsity teams displayed exceptiona­l talent and determinat­ion securing two gold medals, two silver and three bronze medals from individual­s and doubles teams. The JV team secured the silver medal, showcasing their dedication and teamwork.
