CHIROPRACTIC

‘CHIROPRACTIC FOCUSES ON JOINTS, NOT BONES, AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY INVOLVE CRACKING SOUNDS,’ SAYS DR DOMINIK SCHEIBER WHO FORESEES GREAT SCOPE FOR CHIROPRACTIC IN OMAN IN COMING YEARS, GIVEN THE GROWING TENDENCIES TOWARDS A SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE

Over the past few years, Oman's healthcare landscape has witnessed rapid transformations, embracing various alternative treatment modalities. Among these, Chiropractic care has been gradually gaining traction.

Chiropractic, a branch of alternative medicine, focuses on analysing and aligning the spine to restore nerve system function. Recent science has shown that multiple dysfunctions and musculoskeletal disorders of the human body can effectively be improved through spinal adjustments.

Dr Dominik Scheiber, founder of Spine Line in Qurum, shares some details on Chiropractic care, emphasising its unique approach to spinal alignment for people of all ages in Oman who often suffer from various conditions for years when conventional medicine doesn’t offer solace.

“The brain is connected to every organ via the nervous system. By aligning the spine, we improve the internal connection and thereby stimulate good body functions, and promote overall health and well-being, besides solving a multitude of body-related issues,” he said.

One key difference of Chiropractic care is its focus on the nervous system rather than just the muscles, unlike traditional massages. Dr Scheiber notes that even athletes are turning to chiropractic care followed by massage to enhance their energy levels and alertness, highlighting its potential benefits beyond pain relief.

In Oman, sedentary lifestyles have contributed to common issues like back pain, affecting people across all age groups, he asserted, adding, "Extended periods of sitting at desks cause the spine to stagnate, impacting the nervous system and brain activity. This sedentary lifestyle has led to various health problems and dysfunctions in today’s society.”

Despite misconceptions, Chiropractic care has been proven to complement traditional treatments effectively. Dr Scheiber clarifies, "Chiropractic focuses on joints, not bones, and does not necessarily involve cracking sounds."

Additionally, it has shown promise in treating children with learning disabilities and autism by activating the spine and brain. It is gentle and beneficial for children, too, aiding learning disabilities by activating the spine and brain. “Indeed, my doctorate paper has been with the subject and it has been seen to be effective with regular adjustment sessions,” he added.

Chiropractic's origins date back to ancient civilisations, and its integration into modern healthcare has been notable, says Dr Scheiber highlighting its growing popularity among athletes who seek its benefits in enhancing performance and recovery.

Dr Scheiber stresses the significance of movement in maintaining spinal health, underscoring that a sedentary lifestyle can have adverse effects on overall wellbeing. “Chiropractic care offers a holistic approach to improve health, addressing not only pain but also promoting overall wellness. As awareness grows and misconceptions are addressed, Chiropractic care has the potential to play a significant role in Oman's evolving healthcare landscape,” he assured.
