Data­mount launches Oman’s largest data cen­tre in Jebel Akhdar

Data cen­tre host­ing ser­vices com­pany - Data­mount has launched the na­tion’s largest com­mer­cial data cen­tre at Jebel Akhdar. A cost-ef­fi­cient, data cen­tre fa­cil­ity with a to­tal floor area of around 9000 square me­ters, the cen­tre will ac­com­mo­date around 1000 racks, mak­ing it the Sul­tanate’s largest scale-data cen­tre.

The com­pany will lever­age this highly re­li­able, scal­able, state-of-the-art fa­cil­ity to fur­ther grow its data cen­tre ser­vices. The launch hap­pened at a glit­ter­ing cer­e­mony held at Kempin­ski Ho­tel re­cently un­der the pa­tron­age of HH Sayyid Shi­hab Bin Tariq Al Said, Ad­viser to His Majesty the Sul­tan.

De­signed by tech­nol­ogy part­ners Nx­tGen Data Cen­tre & Cloud Tech­nolo­gies, one of the well-known data cen­tre ser­vice providers, Data­mount’s fa­cil­ity is be­ing es­tab­lished to pro­vide lead­ing Data Cen­tre ser­vices to gov­ern­ment en­ti­ties, cor­po­rates and var­i­ous busi­ness en­ter­prises, lo­cally and in­ter­na­tion­ally. The com­pany aims to sup­port and help clients achieve their com­mer­cial goals and ser­vice ob­jec­tives, through the fa­cil­ity.

On the mo­men­tous oc­ca­sion of the launch of its dat­a­cen­tre, Data­mount signed a con­tract with Min­istry of De­fense Pen­sion Fund for leas­ing its land at Jebel Akd­har with a to­tal area of around 28,000 square me­ters.

The com­pany has signed a part­ner­ship with Awasr as a strate­gic Tele­com Ser­vices provider and with Avaya for pro­vid­ing cloud com­mu­ni­ca­tions as a ser­vice.

To­day was also the day when Data­mount signed up with Pulse In­for­ma­tion

Tech­nolo­gies (Rit­tal so­lu­tion provider) for build­ing a mini data cen­tre of 20 racks.

Part­ner­ships were also signed with In­no­va­tive Sys­tems Mid­dle East for pro­vid­ing cloud based doc­u­ment man­age­ment sys­tem and sup­port ser­vice for Avaya and with IMTAC for pro­mot­ing Data­mount col­lab­o­ra­tive ser­vices and IoT tech­nol­ogy in the mar­ket. Data­mount’s share­hold­ers in­clude renowned in­dus­try names such as the Royal Of­fice Pen­sion Fund, Min­istry of De­fense Pen­sion Fund, In­ter­nal Se­cu­rity Ser­vices Pen­sion Fund, Mus­cat Ser­vices and In­vest­ment, Seven Seas Group, In­dus­trial Man­age­ment Tech­nol­ogy & Con­tract­ing (IMTAC) and Nasma Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions.

Dr Tahir Al Kindi, Chair­man of the com­pany elu­ci­dated, “Cor­po­rates re­quire to fo­cus on their core busi­nesses. The need for cloud ser­vices, ICT out­sourc­ing, dis­as­ter re­cov­ery and other se­cure ICTre­lated ser­vices has been grow­ing rapidly within the coun­try, due to in­creas­ing dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion of trans­ac­tions and cus­tomer ser­vices. Data­mount has hence been launched to pro­vide re­li­able, sup­port­ive and scal­able data cen­tre ser­vices in­clud­ing cloud ser­vices in the form of pri­vate, pub­lic or hy­per mode.”

Hav­ing numer­ous ben­e­fits for the na­tional econ­omy, the fa­cil­ity would be the first state-of-art cer­ti­fied Tier 4 data cen­tre with a ca­pac­ity of 1000 racks that makes it among the largest data cen­tres in the re­gion.

Well-known com­pa­nies like Mi­crosoft, Face­book, Or­a­cle and SAP are ex­pected to con­sider Oman for host­ing, cour­tesy Data­mount in the fu­ture.

Data­mount will help in re­duc­tion of cap­i­tal ex­pen­di­ture and also in op­ti­miz­ing Opex due to higher util­i­sa­tion and clear ROI for those avail­ing of its ser­vices. The fa­cil­ity will also gen­er­ate nearly 100 di­rect and in­di­rect em­ploy­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties.

The com­pany’s in­vest­ment in this state of the art data cen­tre will re­sult in around 15 per­cent of Data­mount’s pro­jects be­ing awarded to SMEs. Data­mount will also sup­port IT ini­tia­tives like Smart city, IoT, Blockchain, and the set­ting up of train­ing and in­no­va­tion cen­tres to name a few.

As on date, the com­pany’s Cloud Com­put­ing Ser­vices are ready for the mar­ket. Data­mount is ex­pected to go live with mini data cen­tre hav­ing a ca­pac­ity of 20 Racks in the sec­ond quar­ter of 2019. Sub­se­quently, Data­mount’s full setup will be com­pleted and is ex­pected to go live by the fourth quar­ter of 2020 with a ca­pac­ity of 1000 racks.
