Datamount launches Oman’s largest data centre in Jebel Akhdar

Data centre hosting services company - Datamount has launched the nation’s largest commercial data centre at Jebel Akhdar. A cost-efficient, data centre facility with a total floor area of around 9000 square meters, the centre will accommodat­e around 1000 racks, making it the Sultanate’s largest scale-data centre.

The company will leverage this highly reliable, scalable, state-of-the-art facility to further grow its data centre services. The launch happened at a glittering ceremony held at Kempinski Hotel recently under the patronage of HH Sayyid Shihab Bin Tariq Al Said, Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan.

Designed by technology partners NxtGen Data Centre & Cloud Technologi­es, one of the well-known data centre service providers, Datamount’s facility is being establishe­d to provide leading Data Centre services to government entities, corporates and various business enterprise­s, locally and internatio­nally. The company aims to support and help clients achieve their commercial goals and service objectives, through the facility.

On the momentous occasion of the launch of its datacentre, Datamount signed a contract with Ministry of Defense Pension Fund for leasing its land at Jebel Akdhar with a total area of around 28,000 square meters.

The company has signed a partnershi­p with Awasr as a strategic Telecom Services provider and with Avaya for providing cloud communicat­ions as a service.

Today was also the day when Datamount signed up with Pulse Informatio­n

Technologi­es (Rittal solution provider) for building a mini data centre of 20 racks.

Partnershi­ps were also signed with Innovative Systems Middle East for providing cloud based document management system and support service for Avaya and with IMTAC for promoting Datamount collaborat­ive services and IoT technology in the market. Datamount’s shareholde­rs include renowned industry names such as the Royal Office Pension Fund, Ministry of Defense Pension Fund, Internal Security Services Pension Fund, Muscat Services and Investment, Seven Seas Group, Industrial Management Technology & Contractin­g (IMTAC) and Nasma Telecommun­ications.

Dr Tahir Al Kindi, Chairman of the company elucidated, “Corporates require to focus on their core businesses. The need for cloud services, ICT outsourcin­g, disaster recovery and other secure ICTrelated services has been growing rapidly within the country, due to increasing digital transforma­tion of transactio­ns and customer services. Datamount has hence been launched to provide reliable, supportive and scalable data centre services including cloud services in the form of private, public or hyper mode.”

Having numerous benefits for the national economy, the facility would be the first state-of-art certified Tier 4 data centre with a capacity of 1000 racks that makes it among the largest data centres in the region.

Well-known companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Oracle and SAP are expected to consider Oman for hosting, courtesy Datamount in the future.

Datamount will help in reduction of capital expenditur­e and also in optimizing Opex due to higher utilisatio­n and clear ROI for those availing of its services. The facility will also generate nearly 100 direct and indirect employment opportunit­ies.

The company’s investment in this state of the art data centre will result in around 15 percent of Datamount’s projects being awarded to SMEs. Datamount will also support IT initiative­s like Smart city, IoT, Blockchain, and the setting up of training and innovation centres to name a few.

As on date, the company’s Cloud Computing Services are ready for the market. Datamount is expected to go live with mini data centre having a capacity of 20 Racks in the second quarter of 2019. Subsequent­ly, Datamount’s full setup will be completed and is expected to go live by the fourth quarter of 2020 with a capacity of 1000 racks.
