Agenda for Arab Labour Conference discussed
MUSCAT — Khalil bin Abdullah al Khonji, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), yesterday met Ahmed Luqman, Secretary General of the Arab Labour Organization (ALO), in the presence of Shaikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower.
The meeting discussed the agenda for the 39th session of the Arab Labour Conference to be held in Beirut during April 1-8, with delegations representing the three production sectors in Arab countries.
The meeting also discussed the role of labour unions' freedom, unemployment in the Arab world, the complementary role of private and public sectors in development.
The meeting reviewed decisions taken by the previous conference held in Cairo last May, the organisation 2013-2014 draft budget and financial audit reports and accounting audit reports for the final statements for the fiscal year ending December 2010, of the Arab Labour Bureau, institutes and centres of the organisation.
The agenda of the 39th session of the Arab Labour Conference will include formation of constitutional and organisational structures of ALO board, financial auditing authority ,union's freedom committee and Arab women labour affairs committee for the period 2012-2014.
Khalil bin Abdullah alKhunji stressed in the meeting the growing role of ALO in the development of Arab human resources to benefit from their total potentials in the economic and social development.
He also affirmed the importance of ALO role in coordinating the efforts of employers-employees at Arab and international levels, expanding and protecting union right and freedom, providing technical support in labour fields to the three production sectors in the Arab countries, thus participating in the development of the Arab manpower and raising of its production competence.
