Thousands of students take part in Injaz Oman’s innovation camp
MUSCAT — Over 3,000 students from various colleges across the Sultanate have completed Injaz Oman’s innovation camp spearheaded by 20 Omran employees.
The one day youth empowerment programme is dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
Omran employees mentored the college students to identify solutions to business challenges by adopting the principles of ‘learning by doing’ and acquiring first-hand experience of the working world.
This in turn allowed students the opportunity to strengthen their interpersonal skills particularly in competencies such as critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and team work.
“Injaz stems from the belief that if you inspire and prepare young people then they can succeed in a global economy. The Innovation Camps have proven to be the most effective means to steer young people towards business ideas which is not always easily achieved in a traditional classroom context,” explained Shabib al Mamari, Executive Director of Injaz Oman.
“These camps are tremendously challenging and fun and act as precursors or addons to in-school entrepreneurship programmes. We are proud to be associated with an organisation such as Omran who has taken a leading role in galvanising private and public partnership and fostering youth development.”
Wael bin Ahmed al Lawati, CEO of Omran said, “Working at Omran is not only about creating memorable destinations and experiences but about instilling an appetite for volunteerism amongst all employees, as an integral part of our corporate culture. As an Omani company, we encourage employees to participate in activities that make a profound impact and bring a deeper meaning to their own lives.
The concept behind Injaz is not merely about asking companies for financial support but also encouraging employees to be part of a positive chain reaction by simply volunteering their time, energy and sharing their expertise.”
He went on to add that “the experience had a long-lasting impression on all staff members who went over and beyond the call of duty to inspire a sense of belonging, pride and confidence in each student.”
Lyutha al Habsiya, an Omran employee from the Corporate Affairs Department who led the innovation camp at the College of Applied Sciences in Rustaq described her first volunteering experience as enriching and eye opening. She explained that it was refreshing to see how the camp has established a platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas.
Another Omran employee working on the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre project, Mohammed al Ghanboosi said “I was assigned to mentor students at the Sur Applied Science College and honestly it was a very satisfy- ing experience. I am a strong believer that the act of volunteering builds the foundation for a country’s success”
Through the Innovation Camp and other pioneering programmes, Injaz Oman aims to equip students with practical business-related skills as part of the regular educational curriculum.
Offering an unbroken chain of educational opportunities that will strengthen their innovation and deepen their understanding of the business world, the organisation gives them professional qualifications to enable their success in the global economy. Among business leaders, it cultivates responsibility for investing their resources in the future of Oman’s youth and becoming the mirrors they want to see in the world by mentoring and inspiring young people to rise to their true potential.
