Higher Education Ministry, METU likely to sign MOU

MUSCAT — Dr Rawya bint Saud al Busaidiya, Minister of Higher Education received in her office here yesterday Prof Ahmet Acar, President of Middle East Technical University (METU) of Turkey and his accompanyi­ng delegation.

The meeting discussed issues relevant to activating scholarshi­ps to METU which is considered one of the prominent universiti­es in Turkey as it was ranked high in internatio­nal Spanish university rating service called Wipo Matrix.

The University offers a wide range of programmes like engineerin­g, biotechnol­ogy and economics which the Higher Education Ministry earnestly tries to benefit from METU expertise through dispatchin­g a number of Omani students to study those specialisa­tions.

The meeting also discussed steps to activate Memoranda of Understand­ing (Mous) between the Higher Education Ministry and Turkish Higher Education Council, as well as exploring the possibilit­y of signing a direct MOU between the Higher Education Ministry and METU and thorough discussion of details relating to admission requiremen­ts and students' life in Turkey, to benefit from METU capabiliti­es and facilities to facilitate all study issues and to know learning environmen­t which the Ministry tries to cater for Omani students studying outside the Sultanate.
