Oman-turkey talks focus on computeris­ation, e-legal cases

MUSCAT — An official session of talks was held yesterday at the Justice Ministry between the Omani and Turkish sides, where the Omani side was chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hinai, Minister of Justice and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, while the Turkish side was chaired by Sadullah Ergin, Justice Minister.

Shaikh al Hinai said that the countries were linked by legal frameworks which had contribute to the developmen­t of co-operation between them in all fields, pointing out that the judicial agreement signed between the two countries is the foundation on which cooperatio­n is built.

He said that the officials’ visit exchange provided an opportunit­y to review what has been achieved within the frame of this agreement and to explore the new developmen­ts not previously covered, like the computeris­ation of law.

He said that the Justice Ministry is interested in this field, as the ministry is preparing a bid for law computeris­ation and electronic­ally managing legal cases in the legal courts or the others to be opened in the future.

He added that his visit to Turkey two years ago provided him with the opportunit­y to closely see the Turkish capabiliti­es, whether in infrastruc­ture of court accessorie­s and preparatio­ns which harmonise with the contempora­ry spirit, in addition to the reputation represente­d by Turkish law academic institutio­ns, which is considered an Islamic source of pride and to benefit from their expertise in building sim- ilar institutio­ns, a topic which was stressed in all meetings between the two sides.

The Justice Minister said that a genuine need was felt for Turkish willingnes­s for co- operation with the Sultanate in the field of developing and modernisin­g courts’ perform- ance. Undoubtedl­y this visit will add a momentum to the progress achieved.

On his side, Sadullah Ergin, the Turkish Justice Minister affirmed that he shared his counterpar­t’s vision on the influentia­l contributi­on the two countries have in the region and across history and that they should work to protect these achievemen­ts in a manner that strengthen­s the relations between them.

The guest presented a cooperatio­n framework which the justice ministries in the two countries could discuss in order to adapt, activate and program in the future in a way that reflects the real willingnes­s of the two countries in making the co-operation between them an example that should be followed.

The talks session was attended from the Omani side by Isa bin Hamad bin Mohammed al Azri, Justice Under-secretary, Shaikh Ishaq bin Ahmed bin Nasser al Busaidy, Chairman of the Supreme Court and Hamoud bin Talib al Balushi, Chairman of the Public Administra­tion for Judicial Inspection and a officials at the Justice Ministry.

On the Turkish side the session was attended by the minister’s chancellor and head of the minister’s office.

Earlier, Sadullah Ergin arrived in Muscat on an official visit to the Sultanate.

He was received at the airport by Al Hinai, Isa bin Hamad bin Mohammed al Azri, Justice Under-secretary and officials at the ministry. — ONA
