Prof Nair is recipient of awards such as Sahitya Academy Award for poetry in 1992, Asan Award for poetry in 2003
MUSCAT — With the timetested hospitality and with a blessed landscape, Oman has always been really accommodating, according to wellknown poet and scholar Prof Madhusoodanan Nair.
Prof Madhu who was here on a private visit in response to an invitation from Shashidharan, CEO of Shamel Media, said he visited the country more often than he visited any other country of his choice.
“I’m not sure if it is because Oman’s Salalah hold close resemblance with Kerala, or it is because the people of Oman are highly hospitable, I love the place and wish to visit over and over,” the noted poet told the Observer in a recent interview.
Some of his works have won regional and international applause.
Works such as Naranathu Bhranthan (poetry) has acclaimed to be the best-seller in India, Gandharvam (poetry), Asia Kanmunpil (sociological), Nadodi Vignanam (folklore of Kerala, Kerala Vignanakosam, Budhivikasam (special education) are some other titles that boasts of high acceptance.
When asked about the birth of some of his best-sellers he said: “They are not purposely written ones but it just happened when there was an urge to converse with my readers and they happened to be highly recognised,” says the author.
Prof Nair is also recipient of a number of awards such as Sahitya Academy Award for poetry in 1992, Asan Award for Poetry in 2003.
Professor Madhusoodanan Nair has also won the Kunju Pillai Award for poetry in 1986, K Balakrishnan Award for poetry in 1990, R G Mangalom Award in 2003 and Souparnikatheeram Prathibhapuraskaram in 2003.
He is presently the member of the editorial board of History of Malayalam Literature of Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, and convener, editorial board, Vivekodayam, Asan Memorial, Thonnakal. He has served as member of the advisory board of the Central Sahitya Academy, New Delhi; Kerala Sahitya Academy general council; and State Curriculum Committee, Government of Kerala.
He was also the managing committee member of Asan Memorial, Thonnakal and for three years with the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation Planning and as the executive committee member of CV National Foundation.
