Power plant in Duqm

-

MUSCAT — The Public Authority of Electricity and Water (PAEW) currently has 42 projects under study and design. A power plant planned for Duqm is currently being studied by the Authority.

A gas pipeline from the Saih Nihayda gas eld to fuel Duqm’s future industrial and power generation requirements is expected to ready by 2017. The 250-km pipeline is anticipated to initially deliver 12mn cu ft of gas per day from the eld to Duqm, 7mn cu ft of which will be needed for proposed Duqm Power Plant.

Extension of water supply networks in Muscat Governorate is an important project currently under study at the Authority. This project will cover Seeb, Bausher, Muscat and Amerat.

Improvement of Barka-Mawaleh-Bausher transformation system, which includes installation of nine pumping stations, construction of ground reservoir and pipelines, is under study. Similarly, among other projects are water transformation main for expansion of distribution networks in Al Amerat, water supply to Bar al Jissah, Saraya Bandar, Yeti and Muscat villages, construc- tion of transmission pipeline from Wadi Adai to Al Amerat, expansion of distribution networks in Seeb, construction of emergency water storage reservoirs in the Governorate of Muscat and expansion of the existing desalination plant in Al Wusta, among others.

Muhammad bin Abdullah al Mahrooqi, Chairman, PAEW, says demand for electricity and water has grown with the growth in other sectors. This growth has however not affected the expansion of water and electricity services to reach all villages and towns, despite the dif cult geographical hindrances at times.
