Cops summoned over Ramdev crackdown

NEW DELHI — Six policemen, named in a charge sheet led in connection with last year’s crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his followers at Ramlila Maidan here, have been summoned by a Delhi court on July 7.

Metropolit­an Magistrate Anil Kumar accepted the sets of charges led by police and said: “I have perused the charge sheet and documents led by the investigat­ing of cer. I hereby take cognizance of offence under section 336 (act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).”

The court in its June 4 order said: “Let accused persons named in the charge sheet be summoned through investi- gating of cer for July 7.”

Additional Commission­er of Police Devesh Chandra Srivastava yesterday said the six police personnel chargeshee­ted were SubInspect­or Sushil Kumar, Head Constable Vijender and Constables Ravi, Dinesh, Tejinder and Krishan Pal.

A police of cial said that 11 Ramdev supporters were also named in the charge sheet for the offence of endangerin­g life.

He added that 10 out of the 11 accused, most of them members of Ramdev’s party Bharat Swabhiman, were arrested after the incident.

Police told the court that investigat­ions were going on for the identi cation of other people involved in the case.
