- By Sanjay Chakhaiyar

MUSCAT — Oman's swimming team will hold a training camp in Turkey from June 15 to July 10. This was revealed by the Sultanate’s long-distance swimming coach Istvan Kormos on the sidelines of an award function at the Ministry of Sports Affairs yesterday

‘‘We will have an intensive training session in the city of Samsun in Turkey,’’ said Kormos.

The tall Hungarian also stated that Oman will be taking part in the 10 kms World Championships to be held in Hong Kong at the end of September.

''Our primary aim will be to gain some valuable experience when competing with world class swimmers in Hong Kong,'' commented Kormos.

'However our focus will be on the GCC Beach Games to be held most likely in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia from November 9-16,'' added Kormos.

Kormos felt con dent on his boys’ coming out with ying colours during the second GCC Beach Games in Saudi Arabia.

‘‘We performed well during the rst GCC Beach Games and hopefully will be successful again.''

‘‘I hope our boys — Khalid al Kulaibi, Mohammed al Habsi and Musallam al Khadouri in particular — will perform well during the Hong Kong meet. 'How- ever our target is the GCC Beach Games at the end of the year.’’

Giving more details about the training programme, the Hungarian said that apart from the camp in Turkey the Sultanate squad will also hold training session in Salalah from July 20 to August 20.

‘‘Salalah will be an ideal destination during July-August for our preparations for the forthcoming championships.''

However, Kormos expressed his utter surprise of swimming not nding a place in the list of events during the third Asian Beach Games in Haiyang (China) which will begin on 16th of this month. .

''Swimming was part of the inaugural Beach Games held in Bali (Indonesia) and again during the second meet held in Muscat and Musannah Sports City two years ago,'' said Kormos.
