MUSCAT — The Muscat Securities Market (MSM) yesterday launched the Investor Relations Action Team af liated to the Middle East Investor Relations Society (ME-IR Society).

The Investor Relations Action Team is the fth of its kind launched across the Middle East following the launch in Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Palestine. The team aims to regulate the relation between investors and companies enlisted on MSM for the purpose of implementi­ng the best practices in investor relations and corporate governance.

It comprises representa­tives from Nawras, Omantel, BankMuscat, Renaissanc­e Services, Ominvest and MSM, seeks to develop investor relations for establishm­ent of effective communicat­ion networks between investors and the companies enlisted on MSM.

Ahmed bin Saleh al Marhoon, Director-General of MSM, said that working in a transparen­t environmen­t serves the interests of all enlisted and non-enlisted companies.

He added that MSM is partially responsibl­e for providing this atmosphere. Therefore it provides the optimum support for the Investor Relations Action Team af liated to the Middle East Investor Relations Society (ME-IR Society).

Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Head of the Investor Relations Action Team, said that the Sultanate's implementa­tion of sound policies of investor relations along with transparen­cy and continuous communicat­ion with shareholde­rs are very important aspects for the long-term success of any company.

He added that practices of investor relations in the Middle East are relatively good compared to other parts of the world.

Al Humaidi added that the team will also seek to implement policies that encourage transparen­cy and disclosure of informatio­n to shareholde­rs.

The team will organise training courses and will circulate lea ets, informatio­n and data on the role of the team and how companies can join the team.

Shaikha al Farsi, member of the Board of Directors of the Investor Relations Action Team, said that the initiative will route institutio­nal governance in the Sultanate, adding that BankMuscat attaches a great importance to investor relations and always take part at conference­s and meetings that cover this issue. — ONA
