Sultanate participates in second GCC-British Economic Forum
POST-BREXIT: Importance of trade relations between the GCC and the UK reaffirmed
LONDON: The Sultanate participated in the second GCC-British Economic Forum, which was organised by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). A number of senior Gulf and British officials, executives, decision makers, investors and economists attended the forum.
Participants from the Omani side included Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, and Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Zaher al Hinai, the Sultanate’s ambassador to UK.
A number of renowned world figures, such as Prince Andrew Duke of York, Dr Abdulatif bin Rashid al Zayani, GCC Secretary General, Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean, ABCC Chairman and Dr Afnan al Shuaib, ABCC Secretary General & CEO.
The forum is a platform for active networks that highlight the economic and investment opportunities. It also explores the potentials for partnership between the UK and the GCC countries in the different fields.
The forum themes covered the priorities of the GCC economies during this stage, the means to achieve sustainable development and response to the Gulf and UK interests.
Dr Al Futaisi said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the transport and communications sector in the Sultanate has witnessed leaps and bounds under the wise leadership of His Majesty the Sultan.
He added that the achievements made will attract new investments to the Sultanate and will enhance the public- private partnership.
Shaikh Al Hinai, said that the UK will always remain an international centre for investment and trade regardless of the circumstances and changes. He pointed out that the UK is the second biggest trade partner for the Sultanate, as well as the biggest foreign investor in the Sultanate.
