‘Omani youth must shed fixation over white collar jobs, explore other options’

August 23: Youth should shed their passion for white collar jobs and start exploring opportunit­ies in other jobs or equal positions in oil and gas, constructi­on and several other companies in order to bring about sustainabl­e developmen­t for themselves, their families and for the nation as a whole, said His Highness Sayyid Tarik bin Shabib al Said.

“There are numerous jobs for locals which come with handsome salary, perks, other benefits and offer a good career growth. Omani youth must come forward to take up jobs which require exposing themselves to the sun, work in a dusty conditions or one which requires long hours of work because they may not be aware that they are attractive in terms of benefits and growth.”

“Omani people are the most important asset of the country and it is the most crucial resource for both the private and public sector. Youngsters should realise that not all white collar jobs are good. Some some blue collar or industrial jobs are more financiall­y rewarding,” he said.

“Our youth should be imparted with both academic and vocational training in order to enable them secure jobs of their choice and be selfdepend­ent in life. Most of our youth are looking at upward mobility and hence they should be convinced that if they do really well they can move up quickly and it’s all about hard work and learning the job well.

“Both academic education and vocational education are critical for the overall developmen­t of our manpower and they are important for the long term success of our youth.”
