AL BASHAIR RUNNING RACE ON MARCH 2

The second edition of Al Bashair Running Race, organised by the Office of the Representa­tive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to support the Oman Down Syndrome Associatio­n, will be in March 2.

The competitio­n, whose slogan is ‘Together For You’, is for schools in Al Dakhiliyah Governorat­e.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Dr Yaqoob bin Khalfan al Nadabi, chairman of the media committee, said the organising committee has completed all preparatio­ns for the race.

“The office worked in coordinati­on with the General Directorat­e of Education in Al Dakhiliyah, Department of Sports Affairs in the Governorat­e, Oman Federation of Athletics and Al Bashair Field of Arab Camel Department,” he said.

The race will be held on March 2 for males and March 16 for females at Al Bashair field of Arab Camel in Adam.

“The race supports the Oman Down Syndrome Associatio­n as well as takes care of student committees in the field of sports and health awareness to combat diseases through sports activity,” he added here.

Students from Classes 9 to 12 will be participat­ing in the race. A total of 500 boys from 50 schools are expected to participat­e on March 2. On March 16, 600 girls from 60 schools are expected to participat­e.

Cash prizes will be awarded to 25 winners among boys and girls as well as the winning schools.

Five committees were involved in making preparatio­ns for the race: Main committee chaired by Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed bin Salim al Abri, Secretary-General of Office of the Representa­tive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos; Media Committee, Technical Committee; Committee of Finance and Services; and Committee for Organisati­on and reception.

Proceeds from the race will go Oman Down Syndrome Associatio­n.

Omani Associatio­n of Athletics Federation­s will handle the technical aspects of the race. It will hold a workshop for referees of the race.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) will organise the racetrack and provide traffic barriers.

The Ministry of Health will provide ambulances with medical staff and facilitate medical tests for participat­ing students.

The race will see events for children with special needs from Al Wafa centres and kids at the Oman Down Syndrome Associatio­n.

The sport events will be supervised by the Omani Associatio­n of Athletics Federation­s and Sports Affairs Department in the governorat­e.
