Annual festival for Arabian camel races concludes

ADAM: HH Sayyid Asaad bin Tareq al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n Affairs and Personal Representa­tive of His Majesty the Sultan, led on Thursday the closing ceremony of the 2nd annual festival for Arabian camel races at Al Bashayir racetrack for camel races in the Wilayat of Adam in the Governorat­e of Al Dakhiliyah.

The closing ceremony was attended by HH Sayyid Haitham bin Tareq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, Shaikh Sultan bin Hamdan al Nahyan, Adviser to the President of the UAE Head of the Organising Committee of the GCC Camel Races and Chairman of the Emirates Camel Racing Federation, as well as ministers, members of the State Council and under-secretarie­s. The results of the race are as follows: First Round allocated for ‘Al Haja’ej Abkar’, ‘Siba’ owned by Mohammed bin Salim al Wahaibi came first. Second round allocated for ‘Laqaya Abkar’, ‘Al Bashayir’ from Al Bashayir camels owned by HH Sayyid Asaad came first. Third round allocated for ‘Al Yida’a Abkar’, ‘Barzaman’ owned by Mohammed bin Salim al Wahaibi came first. Fourth round allocated for ‘Thanaya Abkar’, ‘Barzaman’ owned by Mohammed bin Salim al Wahaibi came first. Fifth round allocated for ‘Houl Abkar’, ‘Al Bashayir’ from Al Bashayir camels owned by HH Sayyid Asaad came first. In the final round, ‘Al Fayiza’ owned by Ahmed bin Abdullah al Darei came first.

At the end of the race, HH Sayyid Asaad handed over keys of the vehicles to winners of the top places in the five rounds and the final round. HH Sayyid Asaad hailed the camel racing competitio­ns as they are part of the Omani heritage.
