Bahla horse festival ends

BAHLA: The third edition of the traditiona­l horse festival concluded at the racecourse of Al Mamour township under the auspices of Shaikh Saud bin Sulaiman bin Himyar al Nabhani, State Adviser in the presence of members of Majlis Ash’shura, members of the Municipal Council, shaikhs, dignitarie­s and citizens.

Organized by Bahla Club represente­d by Al Mamour team in cooperatio­n with the Oman Lights photograph­y team, the festival saw participat­ion of 70 jockeys and 100 photograph­ers. It included several heritage and artistic events related to equestrian sports as well as various horse shows.

Mohammed bin Abdullah al Shueili delivered a speech on behalf of the organizing committee during which he said that the Al Mamour team was establishe­d in 1980 and since then it has been very active in creating a strong network of individual­s connecting all society segments in a single family whose task is to carry out unique activities and programmes through a permanent partnershi­p and constructi­ve work aimed at serving the town by implementi­ng vital projects and improving the public utilities by utilizing the youths’ energy and the financial capabiliti­es available the town.

The horse festival is aimed at reviving the heritage and history of horse games and encouragin­g young people to engage in equestrian activities, Al Shueili said.

The Al Shamikhat Horse race was held as part of Traditiona­l Horse Festival. The jokey Saif bin Jabir al Busaidy from the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq riding on horse Sabaa came in the first place.
